Founded in 2005 by Abin Chaudhuri, Abin Design Studio grew out of a Kolkata that was beginning to open itself to new ideas after a long period of restraint. The city's layered history and its quiet cultural condence continue to shape the studio's outlook and the way it approaches each project.
Abin's early life in Bansberia, between the intimacy of small-town India and the cosmopolitan energy of Kolkata is reected in ADS's body of work, where minimal, sculptural forms meet handcrafted detail and references to vernacular craft sit comfortably alongside bold modern gestures.
A commitment to making is at the heart of the practice. The studio's design-and-build arm allows for a deeper engagement with materials and techniques, which in turn enables careful experimentation. The lessons taken from this approach to seeing by making bolsters ADS's ongoing work in public projects that aim to strengthen everyday environments.
Through its wide range of work ADS continues to shape an architectural language that is grounded in place and animated by a genuine sense of purpose- a true labour of love.
